Fall in Harper's Ferry West Virginia

Harper's Ferry is one of our favorite places to visit.  It's like going back 100 years as you wander this small, secluded, and historically significant town. Situated at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, Harpers Ferry was once the site of a Federal Armory up until the Civil War.

On September 14th, 1862, surrounded by the Confederate Forces of Stonewall Jackson, Harpers Ferry surrendered to the South. Three days later and less than ten miles to the north, the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia led by Robert E Lee and the Federal Army of The Potomac led by George McClellan converged on Sharpsburg, Md. The outcome would be later be called "The Bloodiest Day" and or Battle of Antietam.

I took these photos on Friday morning, November 8th at around 9 am before the hordes of Veterans Day tourists arrived.
