While I was in the Air Force in the late sixties I was stationed at Dow Air Force Base
in Bangor, Maine (now Bangor International Airport). While there we took many
camping trips up near Baxter State Park.
I wanted Nita to see this wilderness park with its fast flowing Penobscot River and
Mt. Kathadin. We spent an entire day on one of the approach trails to the base of
the mountain. I had hoped to scale to the summit but we ran out of both time and
energy on one of the most strenuous three mile hikes we'd ever done.
Highlight of the entire trip: the Moose!
